our inner voice

We are slaves of society—if we lack self-awareness. Without self-awareness, we do not know what we want or value, so we adopt the wants and values of society. Society takes and we give. It’s not a two-way street. It’s a master-slave relationship. To break our chains, we must become self-aware.

When we are self-aware, we know what drives us. We know what makes us tick. We know why we do what we do. We know who we are. With this awareness, we can change our own code. We can take control of our own lives. We can unplug from the Matrix. We can be free.

But freedom is scary. Freedom can be overwhelming. We may not know how to act or what to do. We have been told our whole lives how to act, and suddenly that automatic voice no longer enslaves us with its commands. That voice has told us our whole lives that we are not good enough—that we are not worthy of love—that we are sinful.

When we wake up through awareness, we are no longer compulsively driven by that commanding voice. Now, we have to listen for our own voice. And that can be hard. We haven’t ever needed to hear our own voice—not with the controlling voice commanding us.

To hear our own voice, we must look within—not without. When we look without, we hear the controlling voice. That outside voice tells us to value money, power, and status. The outside voice tends to overpower the subtle, soft voice within. We must truly listen to hear our inner voice, but it’s there…waiting to be heard.

Our inner voice is at peace. It is focused on the here and now. Our inner voice hears all the outer voices and notices them pass like clouds in the sky. Our inner voice finds both sadness and joy in life, but is not overly attached to them. Our inner voice tells us that we are worthy of love. That we are enough. That we are whole. That we can be ourselves.

May we listen for our inner voice.
