patterns

New patterns are fun. Old patterns are dull. We seek new patterns. We discard old patterns.

We do not understand some patterns. They are noise to us. Noise is a source of mystery. There would be no noise if we understood all patterns. Life itself would grow dull. We would have no reason to continue living. Noise is a sign that there are new patterns for us to discover.

People are patterns. We like known patterns, to an extent. If a person is noisy—if we do not understand their actions—then we do not know whether they are a threat to us. And so their presence fills us with anxiety. But if a person is an old pattern that never changes, we quickly grow bored of their presence.

Art creates new patterns. Art combines old patterns with new patterns. Art is a channel for us to explore the patterns that we do not understand. Art is interesting when we discover unknown patterns within known patterns.

Life is fun when we look for patterns within the pattern.
